Fotografía is the full form for both 'a photograph' and 'the art of photography.' In everyday speech, Spaniards almost always shorten it to foto (f), so saca una foto is far more natural than saca una fotografía. The full form appears in formal or artistic contexts, such as exposición de fotografía.
