Usage Note

Esperma is masculine in most of Latin America (el esperma) but can be treated as feminine in some regional varieties (la esperma), where it sometimes specifically means the waxy substance from sperm whales. In a biological or medical context the plural espermatozoides is more precise for the individual cells.
