Also means
elected
Usage Note
Elegido is the past participle of elegir (to choose, to elect) used as an adjective. In political contexts, presidente elegido means 'president-elect.' Note the stem change in elegir: the infinitive has -gi- but the past participle is elegido (not elegjido). The related noun el elegido (the chosen one) has literary and religious overtones.
Examples
"El candidato elegido tomó posesión hoy."
Natural Translation
The elected candidate took office today.
