Usage Note

Dueño means the owner of something (el dueño del bar — 'the bar owner') and is also used as a landlord in a rental context. The feminine is dueña. The reflexive expression ser dueño de sí mismo means 'to be master of oneself'. Do not confuse with señor, which is a general honorific, though both derive historically from concepts of mastery.
