diet
noun DYEH-tah Rare

Dieta refers to a dietary regimen (estar a dieta = to be on a diet) but also to the everyday diet or eating pattern (dieta mediterránea = Mediterranean diet). A false friend: in Spanish dieta also means a daily allowance or per diem paid to employees or public officials (las dietas del político = the politician's expenses).
