Usage Note
Devaluar is used both in its economic sense—reducing the official exchange rate of a currency—and figuratively, meaning to diminish the worth or prestige of something: devaluar el título académico (to devalue the academic qualification). The reflexive devaluarse is used for currencies that lose value on the market. Conjugated like actuar: devalúo, devalúas, etc.
