Also means
excess
Usage Note
Desmán means an act of abuse, outrage, or excess — typically a transgression of proper conduct: los desmanes de la policía ('police abuses'). It is also the name of the Pyrenean desman, a small aquatic mammal, but the political/ethical sense is far more common. Note the written accent, which is required in the singular to mark final stress.
Examples
"Nadie justificó los desmanes del grupo."
Natural Translation
Nobody justified the group's excesses.
