Usage Note
Descolgar means to lift something down from where it is hanging — a painting, a phone receiver, a coat from a hook. It is a stem-changing verb (o→ue): descuelgo, descuelgas, descuelga. The expression descolgar el teléfono (to pick up the phone) is common in Spain though contestar el teléfono is also widely used. The reflexive descolgarse can mean to abseil or to drop down from a height.
