Usage Note

Descendencia is a collective noun referring to one's descendants as a group or to one's bloodline — it is rarely pluralized in ordinary use. It differs from descendiente (a single descendant, countable noun). A common construction is dejar descendencia (to leave descendants, i.e. to have children). The word carries a slightly formal or literary register compared to hijos or prole.
