Usage Note
Debajo is an adverb of place meaning 'below' or 'underneath'. When followed by a noun it requires the preposition de: debajo de la mesa (under the table). Without de it stands alone (mira debajo). It contrasts with encima (above) and abajo (downstairs/downward), which is less specific about what is 'under' something.
