culo

bottom

noun KOO-loh Rare

Origin: From Latin culus (buttocks).

Also means

backside

Usage Note

Culo is a vulgar but very common colloquial term for the buttocks or anus. Its register is lower than trasero or nalgas, which are more neutral. It appears in many idiomatic expressions: dar por culo is a very rude dismissal; ir de culo means to be overwhelmed with work or problems; lamer el culo means to flatter excessively. In Spain it is used freely in informal speech among friends, but in formal contexts it is considered inappropriate.

Examples

"Se cayó y se golpeó el culo en las escaleras."

Natural Translation

She fell and hit her bottom on the stairs.
