Also means
quota
Usage Note
Cota primarily means an elevation or altitude level in cartography (cota de nivel) and by extension any measured threshold or quota (cota de mercado — market share). In medieval military use, cota de malla is a coat of chainmail — still the standard Spanish term for chainmail armour. Do not confuse with cuota (fee, quota).
Examples
"El río superó la cota de alerta."
Natural Translation
The river exceeded the alert level.
