Usage Note

Copa means a stemmed drinking glass (una copa de vino) as well as a sports trophy or cup (la Copa del Rey). It should not be confused with taza (a cup with a handle, e.g. for coffee or tea). Tomar una copa means 'to have a drink' (generally alcoholic). The plural copas is also the Spanish name for the 'cups' suit in the traditional Spanish card deck.
