Codo refers to the elbow joint on the body, but also to any pipe elbow or sharp bend in plumbing and engineering. The idiom hablar por los codos ('to talk nineteen to the dozen', literally 'to speak through one's elbows') describes a chatterbox. Codo con codo means 'side by side' or 'shoulder to shoulder'.
