brindis
toast (a drink)
noun BREEN-dees Rare
Origin: From German 'Ich bring dir's' (I bring it to you), a drinking toast phrase.
Usage Note
Brindis is an invariable noun — its plural form is also brindis (no added -es). The related verb is brindar (brindar por alguien = to toast someone). Do not confuse with tostada or pan tostado, which are the food 'toast' — brindis is exclusively the ceremony of raising glasses.
