Usage Note
Branquia refers to the respiratory organ of fish and aquatic invertebrates. It is almost always used in the plural branquias. The adjective branquial (as in arco branquial, branchial arch) is used in anatomy and evolutionary biology. Not to be confused with agalla, a regional synonym.
