Usage Note
Bebé carries a written accent on the final syllable, which is stressed. Although the word refers to a human infant, it is grammatically masculine by default even for girls: el bebé (the baby). The plural is regular: los bebés. It is universally used across Spanish-speaking regions; nene/nena is an affectionate regional alternative.
