Baterista is the standard Latin American term for a drummer (a player of the batería, drum kit). In Spain, batería itself can be used for the person as well as the instrument — es batería de la banda (he's the drummer of the band). Baterista is an -ista noun and follows common-gender agreement: el baterista / la baterista.
