balada
ballad
noun bah-LAH-dah Rare
Origin: from Occitan/Provençal balada (dance song)
Usage Note
Balada refers to a slow, lyrical song — a musical ballad — as well as a literary ballad poem. In Spanish pop and rock, balada specifically denotes a slow love song (balada romántica). The medieval literary form (balada as a structured poem) is less common in Spanish than in French or English traditions. Do not confuse with bolero, a different slow romantic genre.
Examples
"Cantó una balada romántica en el escenario."
Natural Translation
She sang a romantic ballad on stage.
