Usage Note

Aeronave is the general legal and technical term for any powered flying vehicle — plane, helicopter, or airship. Aviation law (derecho aeronáutico) uses it in preference to avión because it covers all categories. Despite ending in -e, it is feminine: la aeronave, las aeronaves.
