orbit

Usage Note

Órbita is used literally for the path of a celestial body or spacecraft (entrar en órbita, 'to enter orbit') and figuratively for someone's sphere of influence (fuera de su órbita, 'outside his sphere'). In anatomy, la órbita also means the eye socket. The stress falls on the first syllable, requiring a written accent.
